A Child’s Journey

Every day, children and youth enter the foster care system and are in need of safe, loving homes. Some of our children and youth need a temporary place to stay while others need families willing to commit to their care for a lifetime.

Mesa County Foster Care & Adoption takes extra care to place children in just the right homes, and then we provide training and high-level support to all Fostering and Adoptive Families. Parenting is a big step and our job is to help your family every step of the way.

Every year, Mesa County Foster Care & Adoption supports on average more than 47 foster families, 66 kinship families, and up to 600 families through adoption and beyond.

  • In Mesa County, on average there are more than 200 kids are in out-of-home care and about 20 children/youth in need of adoptive homes at any given time.

  • Over 40% of the children are placed in foster care, while over 32% are placed in kinship care.

  • Each year approximately 40 children become legally free for adoption annually

When there are not enough foster care families to care for the children and youth in our own community, the children are placed in homes on the front range or out of state. These children are removed from all that they have ever known - their parents, siblings, neighborhood, school, and friends.

A Family for Every Child and Youth

The first goal of foster care is always to reunify children with their parents in a safe and stable environment. We are committed to finding every child in our care a caregiver that can meet their needs.

Relatives and friends are the best caregivers for children who are separated from their birth parents. Living with someone familiar eases the trauma of separation while providing a safe and nurturing environment.

We train, prepare, and support foster and adoptive families for the diverse experiences that lie ahead of them when we bring a child into their home. If you think you would be able to foster a child or youth, we will work with you every step of the way.
