What to do if your adopted child runs away:

MCDHS recommends that you call your child in as a runaway to your local non-emergency police department line. You can also contact the postpermanency@mesacounty.us email when your child returns home to open a Family Empowerment Case and access services to strengthen your family dynamic.

If your child is a teenager, please save the contact information of The House: A Safe Place for Western Slope Teens. Your teen can stay at this home with structure, guidance, and support for a limited time until you are able to reconnect with them and determine how to have them at home safely.

What is Beyond Control of Parent (BCOP) and when is it appropriate to call the hotline for your own family?

A Beyond Control of Parent (BCOP) is a type of referral you can make on behalf of your own family. Parents make these calls when they feel that their child is at risk of harming themselves or others in the household and/or if the family feels that the child’s behavior cannot be managed in the home. You call the Mesa County Child Protection Hotline at 970-242-1211 and explain why you feel your child is “out of your control”. If your referral is assigned a case manager, we will contact you directly.
